Adolph Peter Forsgren (Peter Adolph's 3rd child) and Gehardena Jensen were married 13 Oct 1876 in Brigham City, Box Elder Co., Utah.   They were sealed on 11 Oct 1878 in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City.  Seventeen children were born to this couple!

Child #1 - Josephine Gehardena Forsgren,  born 21 Oct. 1877 in Brigham City and died just 5 hours later on 22 Oct 1877.  [Source:  Adolph Peter's handwritten record Book.  Also  Brigham City Cem. Recs. (GS 979.242/B1 V22).]

BURIAL: Brigham City Cem B-18-20-10   Child #2 - Adolph Cornelius Forsgren (known to family members as Neel or Neely).  Cornelius was born 5 Feb 1879 in Brigham City.  He lived to be 28 years old and never married, probably because he suffered from epileptic seizures.  He died on 9 August 1907 and was buried on 11 Aug 1907 in the Brigham City Cemetery.   BIRTH:Adolph Peter's record book in poss. of Adele Austin; DEATH: Death Certif.with Adolph as informant lists birth as 13 Feb 1879

Brigham Sexton's Rec (GS film 194,133); Brigham City Cem. Recs. (GS 979.242/B1 V22).  Adolph Peter's record book states that he died of Epolepsy 28 yrs. 6 mo. 9 days; Death Certif - Utah states the epilepsy was of 10 yrs. duration.

My grandmother, Alfrieda Forsgren Sorensen Morgan always said that Neely was her favorite brother.
Frieda would have been only about 10 at the time of her brother's death.

Child #3 - Oliver Orlando Forsgren ("Ollie"), born 25 Oct. 1880 in Brigham City.  Oliver died 3 Jun 1966 in Brigham City and was buried in the Brigham City Cemetery on 6 Jun 1966.  On 20 Jun 1904 Oliver married 1) Katie Ellen White in Brigham City.   Katie was born 2 Nov 1882 in Goshen, Utah.  She passed away 22 Jan 1943 in Brigham and was buried 26 Jan 1943 in the Brigham City Cemetery.  A few months later Oliver married 2) Jessie Burt Forsgren, the widow of his brother Gehard, on 16 June 1943.  They were married for time only in the Logan Temple.  Jessie also preceded Oliver in death - 1 July 1950.

Katie Ellen White, Oliver's first wife, was the third of 11 children born to Charles Headley White and Sarah Matilda Guyman. She was born 2 Nov. 1882 in Goshen, Utah.  She passed away 22 Jan 1943 and was buried Jan 26th in the Brigham City Cemetery.

     Brigham City, Jan 23- Katie Ellen White Forsgren, 60, 513 South Third East street, died at her home Friday at five-thirty p.m. following a brief illness.
     She was the daughter of Chas. H. White and Sarah Guyman and was born Nov. 2, 1882 at La Jana, Colo., where she was reared and educated. She was married to Oliver O. Forsgren, June 22, 1904, in Brigham City, where she has resided since.
     The deceased was a teacher in the Brigham City LDS Sixth ward and was a member of the Bee Hive camp of Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
     She is survived by her husband and the following sons and daughters: Lloyd, Gerald B. and Mrs. Alden Larsen, Brigham City; Denzil L. of Ogden, and Fred L. of the U.S. Navy; her mother, Mrs. Sarah M. White of Murray and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Wm. Poulsen, Hailey, Idaho., Mrs. Albert Bergen and Mrs. Emily Jessop, Ogden; Mrs. Denzil Pike and Mrs. Inar Johnson, Salt Lake City, and Helen White of Murray; Funeral services will be announced later by the Harold B.      Katie Ellen White Forsgren was born November 2, 1882 to Charles Headley White and Sarah Matilda Guymon in Goshen, Utah. Katie married Oliver Orlando Forsgren on June 22, 1904. They were later sealed in the temple on April 2, 1914. Katie and Oliver had 8 children. Katie worked hard at her homemaking and made many sacrifices for her family. She was a conscientious housekeeper. She made extra money by selling milk, eggs, vegetables, and butter that she had made. She was fussy about not having dandelions in the cows hay because it gave the butter a strong flavor. She had one nice dress "to go to church in." It would be made by her sister Helen who was an excellent seamstress. She was a good cook. Her bread, cakes, cookies, pies were always delicious. Katie was firm and taught her children good principles, to be honest, fairness, and to respect others and the law was strictly taught. Katie was a grateful person. She was very grateful for all she had. Katie died at age 61 she had a gallstone operation and was doing fine when an embolism hit her heart and killed her instantly.

     #1 - Lloyd Oliver Forsgren, born 18 Mar 1905 in Brigham City, Box Elder Co., Utah.  He married Ruby Lillie Polson, on 28 July 1922 in Ogden, Weber Co., Utah.  He died 11 Feb. 1974 in Ogden, Weber Co., Utah and was buried on Valentine's Day in the Brigham City Cemetery.
     Ruby Lillie Polson, was born 7 April 1903 in Brigham City, Utah to Albert Fred Polson and Lilie Cornelia Davidson Craghead.  She died on 3 September  1989 in Brigham City and is buried in the City Cemetery there.

I would like to thank Carol Jean Hubbard for all the wonderful photos contributed as well as stories and personal insight into Oliver Orlando Forsgren & his descendants.  She is Lloyd Oliver's granddaughter.  I met with Carol Jean in her home in northern Idaho in the early autumn of 2012.  She was gracious and enthusiastic and untiring in her efforts to provide the Forsgren Family Association with much-needed information.  She is a gracious lady & open in her desire that all family members contribute to this blog effort.  And not only that, she makes one mean chicken sandwich!!!  I was filled genealogically, "friendshiply", and nourished as I left her beautiful farm and drove back that evening to Pend O'Reille, Idaho where my husband and I were vacationing.  (What better vacation than to get a family history day in along with site-seeing!)

BIOGRAPHY:  Short History of Lloyd Oliver Forsgren
       Lloyd Oliver Forsgren was born March 18, 1905 in Brigham City, Utah.  He was  the oldest son of Oliver Orlando Forsgren and Katie Ellen White Forsgren.  He was from a large family, with a total of 9 children in the family.  The names of the siblings are as follows:   Marial White who died at about 9 months old.  Merril White Forsgren  who died at 14 months.   A still-born son born in 1910.  A brother, Denzil Layton Forsgren who died  about 4 months after Lloyd passed away, in 1974.  Gerald Burt Forsgren who died in 1953 at the age of 38 years old.  A sister, Helen Grace Forsgren  died at the age of 21.  Fred Lee Forsgren died in 1996, at the age of 75.  He died 12 years after Lloyd.  Alda Florence Forsgren died in 1943, at the age of 21.
     Lloyd's mother, Kate died at the age of 61 in 1943.  Lloyd's father Oliver died in 1966 at the age of 86 years.  
     As a child Lloyd worked at the cemetery pulling alfalfa for the animals.  The cemetery was located just a little ways north of their home.  The children were taught the value of work and not to be wasteful.  He grew up in Brigham City, Utah in the family home located at 519 South 3rd East. It is believed by the family that Lloyd's father, Oliver,  built the home, or at least was part of building it as he was a carpenter himself.   The home still stands today January 2013.
     He married Ruby Lily Polson on July 28, 1922. Lloyd was 2 years younger than Ruby.  He was 17 years old and she was 19 years old when they married.  The marriage certificate states that Lloyd was 19, as they reported it that way because he was not old enough to get married.  They were married in Odgen, Utah, the family has no recollection as to why they were married there instead of Brigham City where they lived.  They had 4 children, Irene, Arlene, Harvey and Janet.
      He was industrious and worked at many jobs. He worked at a brick yard, for a time he farmed, he worked as a mechanic for the CCC's, he was also a heavy equipment operator.  He worked for Hanson Chevrolet as a mechanic until his retirement.   He invented a tool that would make fixing cars easier, he did not patent it though.  We wish we had more information on this tool.
      He  loved the outdoors and was a great fisherman and hunter.  His grandchildren will always remember the great fishing and camping trips together.   He taught himself to play the harmonica.   He was conscientious about time.   He was a real handyman and could fix almost anything.   He was a good painter.   He was fussy about his tools being put away and things cleaned up after a job that he did.
     Lloyd  built the family's home in Brigham City, located at 486 South 1st East.  The home was bought in 1935.   His daughter,  Irene reports the following;  “We moved into a basement home it was the last house we would move too.  It was nice.  It had big windows so it didn't seem like a basement.  This house had our first indoor toilet, a cola stove, a wringer washer, tin tub.   Mom and Dad worked hard, they would buy a little bit at a time.  Daddy drew the plans and made the cinder blocks for the house.  We all helped to tramp down the bricks.  We finally moved in to the new house, on top of our basement home.”

     Arlene and her husband Bill lived in the basement home for a while, as did Melvin and Janet.  Irene recalls that her Dad (Lloyd) was the mechanic foreman at the CCC camp.  He would often bring home left-over sandwiches from his lunch that had been made from bakers bread, the kids thought it was great.    Ruby made wonderful bread, but the bakers bread was something different and was fun for the kids.
     The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a public work relief program that operated from 1933 to 1941 in the United States for unemployed, unmarried men from relief families, ages 17-28. James McEntee was the head of the agency.  A part of the New deal of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, it provided unskilled manual labor jobs related to the conservation and development of natural resources in rural lands owned by federal, state and local governments.  (taken from Wikipedia)
     Lloyd and Ruby belonged to a bridge club.  Bridge is a card game.    When the church asked them not to play bridge, they changed it to pinochle-then it was just the ladies.
     Lloyd cut Ruby’s hair and all the kids hair.  Ruby had very curly hair and never went to the beauty parlor.  Her hair always looked nice.  Janet, his daughter, reports that she always remembered that when he was through cutting Ruby’s hair he would kiss her on the back of the neck.  Lloyd used hand clippers, his daughters,  Irene and Arlene said they pulled so bad.   Irene reports they were not allowed to use the barber scissors and if they did, he could always tell.
Irene, the oldest daughter of Lloyd and Ruby reports that “ In the early years of their marriage, Mom and Dad would go to dances, the only music was Dad on the mouth organ, he would play and dance at the same time.  Irene wrote  “Most of Mom and Dad's friends would host what they called Dutch Lunches. They served kippered salmon, cheese and beer.”
     Irene writes,  “Mom  would always play April Fools jokes on Dad,  in the early morning, before he had time to realize what day it was.  Some of the jokes were embarrassing to him, but he took them better than you would think. “  
   Janet reported Lloyd's mother, Kate and Ruby had a very good relationship.  Kate would give butter and eggs to them.  She would also give the kids eggs so they could sell them for a penny each to buy candy with.  At one time Ruby helped Lloyd to make a batch of brew. It was against the law and they thought the police were coming so they dumped all of it.
     Carol Jean (granddaughter)  remembers  fishing trips up to Black Smith Canyon, and on one of those trips as they went by the Hyrum reservoir,  she remembers being told that Lloyd helped to build the Hyrum, Utah reservoir.  His pick- up rolled into the reservoir and it was never retrieved.  This is a vivid memory of Carol Jean’s but it seems the rest of the family does not recall this.
     Ruby made several visits to  Irene and her family in Prosser.  She always came home loaded with bargains.  One time margarine was 10 cents a pound.  Lloyd said he could see her car coming because she was so loaded the headlights were hitting the telephone pole wires.

     Fishing trips will always be in the memory of the grand kids   Lloyd and Ruby had 13 grand kids with 4 of those being adopted grand kids   Everyone was treated the same.    The grand kids remember Pa and one of his pickups.  It had utility boxes on the side of the bed.  Carol Jean, one of the grand daughters, remembers  trips up to Logan Canyon, with the cousins riding in the back of that pickup.  Grandma Ruby made sure everyone wore a scarf because of the wind.  Even the boys had to wore a scarf.  I am surprised that they did, but if Pa told you to do something, you did it with no remarks or questions asked.  Pa also had a very large white army tent.  Some of the grand kids got to sleep in that tent.  He also had a camp stove.  It was a pretty good size camp stove with a big chimney and one or two hot plates.   Some of the fishing trips were up to Logan Canyon and some were at Black Smith Fork.

     Lloyd Oliver Forsgren  was always called “Pa” by the grand kids.  Sue (Carolyn Sue Leggett Marten) was the oldest of the grand kids of Lloyd and Ruby Forsgren. When she was a little girl she could not say grandpa so she just called him “Pa”  he liked it and it stuck so all of the grand kids called him Pa.
     Janet, the youngest daughter, reports that she was doing some of her ironing and had not cleaned up yet.  She  received a call from her dad that he needed help.  When she got to the house she went in to get him, when they came back out to the car, even as sick as he was he insisted he open the car door for her.  They went to the hospital, and while they were in the waiting room he was so sick, she finally went to the desk and said, “ My dad is so sick he has to lay down.”  Someone commented that they thought it was her that was sick, her hair was not fixed and she had not yet cleaned up for the day.  Lloyd was kept in the Brigham City hospital for a few days before they transferred him to the Ogden hospital.     Lloyd died of heart problems in Ogden, Utah February 11, 1974 and was later buried in Brigham City.

ANNIVERSARY:  Ogden Standard Examiner, 16 August 1942

     A buffet supper and party honoring the "China" wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Forsgren was held at their home in Brigham City Saturday evening.  Mr. and Mrs. Forsgren were married twenty years ago July 28. 

     About 15 couples attended the buffet supper and presented Mr. and Mrs. Forsgren with a beautiful china dinner set.  Bingo was played and forty prizes were awarded to the guests.

Open House to Honor Couple On Anniversary

     The children of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd O. Forsgren invite all their friends, neighbors, and relatives to help them celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.  There will be an open house honoring the couple on Friday, July 28, at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Melvin Whitaker, 572 South Second East, Brigham City, from 7 to 9 p.m.

     Lloyd and Ruby Forsgren were both born and raised in  Brigham City.  They are the eldest children of Kate and Oliver Forsgren, and Lillie and Albert Polson, respectively

     They were married on July 28, 1922, in Ogden.  On July 28, 1969, the marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS temple. 

    The couple has four children:  Mrs. Glen E. Leggett (Irene), Twin Falls, Idaho; Mrs. William K. Benson (Arlene), Roy; Harvey L. Forsgren, La Crescenta, Calif.; and Mrs. Melvin Whitaker (Janet) of Brigham City.  They have 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild. 

     A master mechanic by trade, the bulk of Forsgren's working career was spent working for the government and a Chevrolet agency. 

     Mrs. Forsgren has delighted many a taste bud with her gourmet cooking.  She has held many LDS Church positions ranging from Primary teacher to Relief Society president. 

     The family requests that no gifts be brought.

     Lloyd Oliver Forsgren, 68, 486 South First East, died Monday night in the McKay hospital in Ogden of a heart ailment.

     He was born March 18, 1905, in Brigham City, the son of Oliver O. and Katie Ellen Wight Forsgren.

     He married Ruby Polson, July 28, 1922 in Ogden.   Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS temple in 1969.

     He was reared in Brigham City, had formerly been employed in the Salt Lake Pressed Brick company and the Gordon Planning Mill in Murray, had also farmed in Centerville from 1923 to 1926.

     Forsgren moved back to Brigham City and worked as a mechanic foreman with the Dept of Interior's Civil Conservation corps. 

     Later he had worked as a drag line operator at Hill field and worked 20 years with the Chevrolet agency in Brigham City as a mechanic. 

     After his retirement he worked at the Box Elder county Fly and Mosquito abatement district, maintaining their vehicles.

     Forsgren was an active member of the Brigham City Sixth LDS ward, had served as a home teacher and chairman of the ward's senior citizen's' committee.

     He is survived by his widow of Brigham City; one son and three daughters, Harvey L. Forsgren, Salt Lake City;  Mrs. Glen (Irene) Leggett, Twin Falls, Idaho;  Mrs. William K. (Arlene) Benson, Roy;  Mrs. Melvin (Janet) Whitaker, Brigham City;  13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred L. Forsgren, Brigham City; Denzil L. Forsgren, Ogden. 

      Funeral services will be conducted today (Thursday) at 1 p.m. in the Brigham City Sixth LDS ward chapel. . . .

     Burial will be in the Brigham City cemetery.

Ruby Lillie Polson Forsgren

Ruby was born April 7, 1903 to Albert Fred Polson and Lillie Cornelia Davidson Craghead Polson.  She was the firstborn of 11 children. On Ruby's birth certificate her name is spelled Polsen.  The spelling with an “o” at the end is found in all other documents - Polson.  Ruby came from a family where love was exemplified in every way.  Her parents were very loving.  She patterned her life after their example.

Being the oldest in the family, Ruby learned to cook, bake and serve at an early age. 

Ruby loved her parents and siblings.  She cared for her parents in their later years.  She served her brothers and sisters in many ways.   She had a keen sense of family and loved and served them all her days.  She was of service to her friends and neighbors on many occasions.  The children in the neighborhood called her “Aunt Ruby”.  She loved children.

Ruby was married to Lloyd Oliver Forsgren when she was 19 years old.  Lloyd was 17 years old, two years younger than she was.  They were married in Ogden, Utah.  No one knows the story of why they were married in Ogden since they both lived in Brigham City.  They were married on July 28, 1922.  They were sealed later in the Logan LDS Temple, July 28, 1970. They had 4 children, Irene Lavona, Harvey Lloyd , Arlene Ruby and Janet May.  All their children lived to adulthood.

Ruby was a great cook and was known for her pies, breads and white moon cakes.  She catered for banquets and parties. With the talent she served many people.

Pies

She made pies for some of the restaurants in Brigham City, Utah:  the Lotus Café, Jesse’s and Maddox.  Some of her grandchildren remember going with her to deliver pies to the Lotus Café.  She made Pumpkin pies at Thanksgiving time that people bought, but her son-in-law said she sold them so cheap that it was like giving them away.  She also made pies to give to people. She let any of the grandchildren who wanted to help, make pies with her.  She made a wonderful little individual meat pie for meals. 

Bread

She made exceptionally good bread. Her children and grandchildren remember her letting them tear off the top of the bread to eat the crust.  She would toast the rest.  Nothing went to waste.  At Christmas time, or when she was catering for a party, she would often make braided bread, with part of the braid being light pink and the other part being pale green.  The bread made beautiful little sandwiches.  Her oldest daughter, Irene Leggett, reports that her mother always made her bread with milk and it had a fine texture.  She would also make “slap jacks”.  They were wonderful!  It was simply fried bread dough that she rolled out, fried and sprinkled with sugar.  

White Moon Cakes for Weddings

She catered for weddings making White Moon Cakes.  They were a little white cake, smaller than a cupcake.  She would put white frosting on them, coconut on the sides and then a flower and leaf on the top of the cake.  The flower color was always the color the bride chose for her wedding colors.  She was much sought after for her delicacies. 

Ruby never hesitated to share her recipes.  In a newspaper article she was quoted as saying  “Recipes, like happiness, need to be shared.”

Canning

Ruby did a great deal of canning. Much of the fruit that was canned was handpicked or gleaned.  “Mom said she was ready for company as long as she had fresh bread, cheese and bottled peaches.”  She made everything look beautiful.  A niece, Berma, said, “it wasn’t a successful visit unless you were fed.”  (Memories of Mom by Irene Leggett)  

That was a legacy that was passed down in the Polson family.  No one went away hungry. 

Baking

Whenever Mom baked she always made extra so she could send it to someone.  She put a smile on lots of faces as well as making their tummy happy. (Memories of Mom by Irene Leggett)   She also taught mini classes on cooking in Relief Society.

Places of Work

In addition to her work of baking & catering, she also worked at a baby shop downtown. She worked for a Mrs. Nelsen.

Ruby rented out their bedroom during Bushnell Days, in Brigham City, Utah.  She became very close to one couple and their little girl. 

During World War II she was the dietician for the Bushnell Hospital.  This was a job she loved and she was exceptionally good to the soldiers.  She would make special milk shakes for those who could not eat normal food.  She would make them as rich and nutritious as she could with what was available.  (From Irene Leggett, Memories of Mom)

“Bushnell Military Hospital operated from August 1942 to June of 1946.  The hospital was a World War II hospital that specialized in treating amputations.  It was one of the 1^st hospitals to experimentally administer penicillin to patients.  Bushnell was a regional facility for wounded soldiers from the Mountain States Area.”  (Information taken from a thesis submitted by Andrea Kaye Carter ,  2008 Utah State University http://digitalcommons.usu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1160&context=etd)

She also worked for the Cooley Hospital in Brigham City, Utah that was located on Main Street at the time.  She did all the cooking, canning, cleaning, bandage-making etc., all for $1.00 a day.  If the hospital was full she got an extra dollar for the week.  (Memories of Mom by Irene Leggett)

Fishing

Ruby loved to fish.  Her husband Lloyd would help to find her a good fishing hole and then he would go on downstream.  She cooked all the fish they caught.  She would often filet the fish and cook them with a little bacon grease.  Lloyd always caught his limit of fish and then Ruby would fry them and then Lloyd would go back to fish some more.  Camping was a part of their life that they shared with their grandchildren.  Ruby always made lots of cookies to take on the camp outs.  Around the campground the grandsons were found carrying coffee cans under their arms that were filled with cookies.   Most fishing trips and camping trips were in Logan Canyon and Black Smith Fork.

Grandchildren

Ruby loved her grandchildren.  She made Christmas P.J’s for each of them for many years that were always  opened on Christmas Eve.  She loved to quilt and made many tied quilts.  Sometimes she made quilts from the large scraps left from the coat factory.  They were extremely warm quilts, with their fuzzy back and a satin type of coat material on the front.  Her grandchildren were recipients of some of those quilts.  She loved to take pictures of her family.  Many pictures were taken of the grand kids; at the time those pictures were called “slides”.  They could be made into prints.  All her grandchildren knew her as Grandma Ruby.  Those who were not her grandchildren called her “Aunt Ruby”.   She took some of her grand kids on a trip on the train.  She would leave from Ogden and go to Hermiston where Irene, who lived in Prosser at the time, picked her up.  One time Little Harvey, a grandson, said,  “The train was so slow he could have run faster in deep water.” 

Sewing

In addition to her quilt making she also made her own clothes and clothes for her children. When she was married she weighed 129 pounds.  She was about 5’5” in height.   She always wore an apron. Her daughter Irene reports that she sometimes wore two aprons, so that if someone came she could take off the soiled apron that was on top and then she had a clean apron.    Later in life her daughter Irene made her clothes and aprons. She reported that she must have made hundreds of aprons.  All her aprons had a bib and tied in the back.   During her service in the Relief Society she sewed many humanitarian toys, like fuzzy balls for babies.   When all the women started wearing pants she wouldn't.  She felt her hips were too big.  But once she put a pair on to go fishing, she was hooked.  And from then on, pants were OK to wear.

Service

Ruby had a great love for her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served as work director in the Relief Society, & counselor and president of the Relief Society.  She also served in the Primary and Sunday school.  She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary for ladies, and a member or the H. I. Club, A women’s club.  She stated that one of the highlights of her life was when she was able to attend the dedication of the LDS temple in Washington D. C.  Ruby had a testimony of the Savior and patterned her life after His teachings.  She served a temple mission in the Ogden, Utah temple.  She loved her temple work and always made sure her clothes were neat and clean. 

Curly Hair

Ruby had curly hair.  She never went to the beauty parlor.  Lloyd, her husband, always cut her hair.  She kept her hair clean and neat.  She always looked fresh as a daisy. 

Perfume

Ruby’s favorite perfume was Roses Roses, by Avon.  She always wore perfume. The first thing in the morning, she would get ready for the day.  She always wore earrings and said she felt naked without them.  She had earrings to match every dress.  

Home

“Our home was friendly and homey.  Mom always said she would rather we left dirt in the middle of the floor than in the corners.  She was very clean and had a clean house-she was always so busy and so many projects going that the house was cluttered.”   (Memories of Mom by Irene Leggett) 

Ruby served her husband well and catered to him and was a faithful wife.  When she made cinnamon rolls she would slightly burn the bottom of one pan because that is the way he liked them. 

Ruby was a friend to many people.  They trusted her and confided in her often.  She was always one to share her home and what she had with others.  Many people were the recipients of her generosity. 

A friend of Harvey’s, (Lloyd and Ruby’s only son), recently (2013) recalled the wonderful time he had growing up and the role the Forsgrens had in his life.  He commented that he lived on Main Street, behind the Forsgren home.  On school mornings he would go through the lot, through the back door of the Forsgren home, then as he would pass through the kitchen, he said he would get a cookie.  Then Ruby would be standing there and he would give her a hug and she would send the boys on their way to school.

Another lifetime friend wrote a letter to the family in 1986 stating, “I have nothing but the fondest memories and deepest love and respect for each of you.  I can truly say that being around you folks was a very pleasant experience and a little bit of heaven.”

Arlene, had a love for gardening and in Ruby’s later years, Arlene would come once a week to do the flowers and gardening for her mother, to keep the home looking nice. 

Dances and Social Get-togethers

“In the early years of their marriage Mom and Dad would go to the dances and the only music they had was Dad playing the mouth organ.  Dad would play and dance at the same time.

Mom was a good sport.  She would try new things.  She would swim in the ocean, play new games, meet new people and make them feel good.  Mom floated and would swim in the canal daily. Most of Mom’s and Dad’s friends would host what they called “Dutch Lunches.” They served kippered salmon and cheese. 

Mom could be quite a joker.  Every April Fools she would play a joke on Dad while it was still early in the morning before he realized what day it was.  He always took the jokes pretty good.  Mom and Dad belonged to a Bridge Club where they played cards.  When the church came out and asked them not to play Bridge, they changed it to Pinochle.  Then it was just the ladies.   (Memories of Mom by Irene Leggett)

Daily Journal

Ruby kept a daily journal for a few years in her later life.  She recorded family things, trips she took, and in general, the day-to-day activities that meant so much to her.  She recorded stories, quotes, recipes and poems that she liked. 

One of the favorites sayings she had was a quote by Carol Lynn Pearson,  “ Cry or curse or call it unfair, but be grateful to the grave that you were the one that received and not the one who gave.”

Ruby wrote, “My mother was my first Relief Society Visiting Teacher companion.  She was really a lovely lady.  Everyone loved her.  And now my last is my daughter (Janet); she, like my mother, is just great.  Everyone loves Janet.  Its just fun to with Janet.” 

The following poem was written about Ruby and given to her by her dear neighbors, Gerald and Rhea Wray. He served as her bishop.

When we think of rubies

Thoughts of jewels come to mind,

Those of Priceless value-

The rare ones hard to find.

We used to wonder how it’d be

To discover such a precious thing.

Thinking the only ones we’d ever see

Would be mounted on a ring.

But that was before we came to Brigham

And bought a home on 1^st East Street

To discover that living right next door

Was the rarest gem we’d ever meet.

And fitting it is that she carries the name

Of a jewel that brings joy to the soul.

Because for eighteen hours each day,

Bringing happiness to others is her goal.

And so, Aunt Ruby, our neighbor so kind,

Who cares for us like a mother,

May Heavenly Father grant to you

After living a life of service, Ruby passed away September 3, 1989, in Brigham City, Utah.  She died of a brain tumor.  Funeral services were held Thursday September 7 at 3 pm in the Olsen Myers Mortuary Chapel with Bishop Robert Day officiating.  She was buried in the Brigham City Cemetery.

   Ruby was born the oldest of eleven children on April 7, 1903. Her parents were Albert Fred Polson and Lilie Cornelia Davidson Craghead. She grew up in a home that was very loving and the family worked very hard. Everyone was welcome in their home and each was asked to share what they had.
     Ruby was married when she was 19 years old to Lloyd Oliver Forsgren in Brigham City, Utah. Later they were sealed in the Logan Utah Temple. They were blest with four children, Irene, Arlene, Harvey and Janet. Everyone was welcome in their home. They had many friends.
     Ruby was a wonderful cook, especially known for her pies. She made pies for special occasions for the family, she also made pies for a couple of the local cafes in Brigham City. She also catered for weddings, dinners, and other events.
She worked at the Bushnell General hospital where she worked as a special diet cook. She made nutritious milk shakes for the soldiers who could not eat. She really catered to the soldiers, she loved this work.
Ruby was a special lady, dear to many people. Her grandchildren lovingly called her Grandma Ruby. The family spent many hours in her home, the went on many camping trips, she would bake cans full of cookies, the children loved. Those who were not family called her Aunt Ruby.
     Ruby was always serving her family or friends. She was a very hard worker. She served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She valued being a visiting teacher, her first companion being her mother, they went with horse and buggy, taking fresh baked loaves of bread in the buggy to share with anyone in need. Her last companion was her youngest daughter Janet. She loved the Relief Society, serving as president in her ward at one time.
Ruby belonged to a women's club. The ladies were very close and they shared many good times.
     Ruby had a great sense of family and loved and served her family well. She had a wonderful testimony of the temple and loved doing temple work. She loved the Lord.

RUBY ARLENE BENSON - ROY – Ruby Arlene Benson, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home, Friday, March 19, 2010. She was born on November 3, 1927, a daughter of Lloyd Oliver and Ruby Lily Polson Forsgren, in Brigham City, Utah. She married William Kenneth Benson on September 25, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in 1963 in the Logan Temple. He passed away on March 20, 2001. Ruby was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served faithfully in many capacities. She also had served as a temple worker in the Ogden Temple. She loved working with children of all ages. She taught the Beehive girls for many years, teaching them to create beutiful things. She taught the Blazer boys class, delighting in teaching them to make bread from scratch. Her talent in cake decorating was extraordinary. She made wedding cakes for all her children and grandchildren. Train cakes, merry-go-round, and doll cakes were a delightful surprise for many grandchildren's birthdays. She loved gardening and could make any plant or flower thrive. She loved all living things, including dogs and cats. She is survived by her daughters; Barbara (Colyn) Flinders, West Weber, Shirlee (David Rodda) Benson, Roy, and her son; Gary Benson, Rocklin, California, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Harvey Forsgren, and sisters; Janet Whitaker, and Irene Leggett. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson, Steven C. Flinders. Arlene and Kenny were the parents of two girls and a boy who are still living (5/2013).   Their daughter Barbara's son, Steven, passed away from Cancer Oct. 1, 2005.  He was born 8 July 1970.

Steven C. Flinders
     WEST WEBER - Steven C. Flinders, 35, passed away peacefully at his home after a short but courageous battle with cancer, October 1, 2005, surrounded by his family.
     He was born July 8, 1970 to Colyn and Barbara Benson Flinders. He was raised
in West Weber, Utah where he later returned to raise his family. Steve married
Shawna C. Ellis, daughter of Barbara and Larry Ellis, on October 29, 1992 and
they were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden LDS Temple on
April 11, 1998. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. He was dedicated to his family and friends and loved
spending time with them. Steve successfully owned and operated his own
business, "Flinders Trucking and Excavating". Aside from enjoying his
business, he loved to hunt, fish, snowmobile and spend time outdoors. He was a
kind and caring man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Steve is
survived by his wife, Shawna, a daughter, Sarah, a son, Kelton, his parents, a
brother, Brian (Deann) Flinders and a sister, Jana (Shayne) Mosher. Funeral
services will be held Thursday, October 6th at 11:00 a.m. at the West Weber
1st Ward, 4100 West 900 South, with Bishop Forrest Allred, officiating.
Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist's
Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the

Janet May Forsgren  <living as of May 2013>  married Melvin J Whitaker on 15 Jun 1951 in Brigham City, Box Elder Co.  Melvin passed away from cancer on 10 May 2007.  At his request he was cremated.  His remains were interred in the Brigham City Cemetery and a memorial service held in his honor on May 26, 2007.

MELVIN J. WHITAKER
Brigham City - Melvin J. Whitaker, 75, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2007.
     He was born January 18, 1932, in Downey, Idaho to Guy Tillery and Melva Ann Jensen Whitaker.  They briefly lived in Montpelier.  In 1942, they came to Brigham City.  He attended school there and graduated from Box Elder High School in 1950.
     Melvin's life was defined by an exceptional work ethic.
     In his youth, he helped his mother with housework, delivered newspapers and worked on his uncle's farm.  He worked at Bushnell Hospital, selling newspapers and candy bars and shining shoes.  While in high school, he worked for the railroad and washed dishes at the Pheasant Cafe.
     Melvin married Janet May Forsgren on June 15, 1951, and they lived in Brigham City.  They have one daughter, Carol Jean Whitaker Hubbard.
     Melvin served in the Naval Reserve from 1950 to 1954.
     He worked at Hill Air Force Base for more than 36 years, from 1950 until 1987, as an inspection and warehouse supervisor foreman over Air Force supplies.  He received several Zero Defects Awards and the Superior Performance Award from the Air Force for his excellent work and leadership.
     Friendliness was important to Melvin;  he was always interested in people.  He was a handyman and could fix just about anything.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife.
     His six grandchildren affectionately called him "Gramps."
     Melvin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
     Melvin is survived by his wife, Janet; his daughter and son-in-law, Carol Jean and Craig Hubbard of Bonners Ferry, Idaho;  six grandchildren:  Ailey Hubbard, Arizona; Jon (Celeste) Hubbard, Arizona;  Brigham (Tanya) Hubbard, Idaho; Stacey (Eli) Searle, Idaho; Ammon (Brandy) Hubbard, Idaho; and Jacob (Jodi) Hubbard, Idaho; and seven great grandchildren.  He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Alice Whitaker of Boise, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.
     He was preceded in death by his brother, Emmett Whitaker, and sister Cloe Velle, who passed away in infancy.
     At Melvin's request, no funeral will be held.  Cremation under the direction of Gillies Funeral Chapel in Brigham City.  A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, at the LDS Chapel at 502 South 200 East in Brigham City.

     #4 child of Oliver & Katie Ellen White Forsgren:  Denzil Layton Forsgren. Denzil was often referred to us "Dayner" or "Fuzzy" during his lifetime.  He was born 24 October 1911 in Brigham City, Box Elder County.  He married Viroqua Nelson on the 15 Jan. 1932 in Morgan City, Morgan Co., Utah.  He died 5 June 1974, of a heart attack while fishing at age 62, in Avon, Cache Co., Utah.  He was buried 8 June 1974 in Brigham City Cemetery.
     Viroqua Nelson was born 13 March 1912 in Brigham City.  She passed away 22 Jan 2002 in Washington Terrace, Weber Co., Utah and was buried 26 Jan 2002 in the Brigham City Cemetery.

LEARNING HOW, WHY  - photo & caption

For Accuracy . . . D.L. Forsgren, 414 Thirty-fourth, checks his measurements on a lathe while doing machinist apprentice work in the city shops.  Forsgren is one of 12 apprentices enrolled in a machinist class of the city school vocational training program.  The boys, all of whom are employed in shop work, are getting actual experience in the shop but have studied drawing and theory at the Ogden high school for a year.  J.W. DENZIL L. FORSGREN

     Denzil Layton Forsgren, 62, of 1237 Oak died Wednesday morning of a heart attack while fishing.

     Mr. Forsgren was born Oct. 24, 1911, in Brigham City, a son of Oliver O. and Katie Ellen White Forsgren.

     He was married to Viroqua Nelson on Jan. 15, 1932, in Morgan.  The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple

     He was employed as a machinist and shop supervisor for the Southern Pacific Co. for 47 years, retiring April 16, 1973. 

     He had served as president for the local and state International Association of Machinists, and was a member of the Railroad Supervisors Association. 

     He was reared in Brigham City and came to Ogden in 1931.  He later lived in California for two years and in Wells, Nev., for one year, returning to Ogden in 1954. 

     He had been an active member of the Democratic Party in Ogden and was a member of the Lions Club of Wells, Nev.

     He was a member of the Ogden 36th LDS Ward and had served as a high priest.  He had served as chairman of the Boy Scout troop committee, home teacher, and was an active temple worker.  He had also served as Chairman of the genealogical society in Torrance, Calif. 

     Surviving are his widow of Ogden; two sons and three daughters, Curtis B. Forsgren, Bothell, Wash; Dennis L. Forsgren, Ogden, Mrs. Dee(Beverly) Stevenson, Gaithersburg, Md; Mrs. Ron (Joni) Thorkilsen, Smithfield, Utah;  Mrs. Hossein (Judy) Ghandehar, Salt Lake City; 16 grandchildren; one brother, Fred Forsgren, Brigham City. 

     Funeral services will be held Saturday at 12 noon at Llindquist and Sons Colonial Chapel with Bishop David Lund of the 36th ward officiating. 

     Friends may call at the mortuary Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday prior to services.  Burial in the Brigham City Cemetery.

WASHINGTON TERRACE - Viroqua Nelson Forsgren passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at Washington Terrace Health Services Center from causes incident to age.
She was born in her parent's farmhouse on March 13, 1912 in Bear River City, Utah, the fifth child of Rudolphus William and Josephine Cavanagh Nelson. She grew up loving to ride on the plow with her father as he farmed. She graduated from Box Elder High School and attended Weber College.
She married Denzil Layton Forsgren and they became the parents of five children. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They made their home in Ogden, Utah.
As her children were growing up, Viroqua was active in the PTA and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Later she was a Pink Lady at the Thomas Dee Memorial Hospital. She was also active in the DUP. Her children fondly and gratefully remember her as the classic stay-at-home Mom, with hot bread or cookies waiting as they returned from school.
     She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in Primary, Young Womens and Relief Society.
     Surviving are five children, Beverly (Dee) Stevenson, Curtis (Norine), Joni Forsgren-White, Dennis (Judy Kay), and Judy Ann (Hossein) Ghandehari; 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband Denzil, and her oldest granddaughter, Vicki Stevenson Graden.
     Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Lindquist"s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Saturday from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.
Interment, Brigham City Cemetery.
     The family expresses their deep appreciation and gratitude for many long months of sensitive, conscientious and loving care given Viroqua by the competent and loving workers at the model Washington Terrace Health Services Center. VistaCare Hospice also assisted. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Washington Terrace Health Services Center, 400 East 5350 South, Ogden, Utah 84405.

Vicki Lynne Stevenson Graden, 47, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000 in Lincoln, Nebraska from injuries sustained in a car accident.
     Vicki was born Aug. 11, 1953 in Ogden, Utah to F. Dee and Beverly Forsgren Stevenson. She grew up mostly in Corvallis, Oregon and Ames, Iowa, graduated from Brigham Young University, and married her sweetheart, William (Bill) Graden in the LDS Salt Lake Temple on Aug. 15, 1975. She loved being a wife, a full time mother, and grandmother. she was the best friend of her husband and children, and had a gift of listening and understanding. Although she seemed to enjoy most being at home with her family, Vicki lived a life of service, always holding ward and stake callings. Her service also included community and hospital volunteer work.
     For the last ten years, she lived in Springfield, Missouri where she had many friends, but she was looking forward to living near family in Utah, where she and her husband had recently moved.
     Vicki is survived and will be deeply missed by her husband, Bill; her children, Beth (Randy Hamilton), Julie, Alan, and Bryan; her parents, F. Dee and Beverly Forsgren Stevenson; her grandmother, Viroqua Nelson Forsgren; her brother, Rodney (JoLynn); her sisters, Su (Michael Tullis), Kelley (Craig Ashcroft), and Kim (Mark Bird); two granddaughters, many nieces and nephews, and extended family members and friends.
     Funeral services will be held in Centerville, Utah in the LDS Church Chase Lane Building at 1125 North 400 West Street, on Thursday Dec. 28th, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at the Farmington, Utah Cemetery. Viewing from 11 to 12:30 prior to the services.

     Curtis Brent Forsgren, 75, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away from an unexpected heart attack, Tuesday, September 14, 2010, surrounded by most of his loving family.
     Curt was born May 1, 1935 in Redondo Beach, CA to Denzil Layton and Viroqua Nelson Forsgren.  He grew up in Ogden, Utah, graduated from Weber State in 1955, served in the Northern States LDS Mission 1955-1957, then graduated from Brigham Young University in 1961 with a degree in accounting.  His career was in accounting management.
     Curt married Norine Nowell on September 12, 1963, in the Los Angeles LDS Temple.  He loved serving in the Church as Seventies group leader, ward executive secretary, gospel essentials teacher, employment specialist and many other callings.  He was a very hard worker who did everything he could to provide for his family.  He also loved serving in the community and was involved with the Kiwanis Club for years.
     He enjoyed singing and participated in many choirs throughout high school, college and adulthood.  He was an avid BYU fan and had season tickets for many years.  He was a good dancer and he especially enjoyed Big Band music.  He loved a good conversation and had an impeccable memory.  He thoroughly enjoyed reading and staying up-to-date with politics and current events.  He also loved classic moves and Westerns.  And we hated always losing to him at Hearts, but loved his cheerful whistling.
     Curt is survived by his wife Norine and children:  Melanie (Tom) Clay, Brent, Chris (Jenny), Courtney, Nathan (Katie), Paige (Bryce) Mackay and 15 grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sisters, Beverly (Dee) Stevenson, Judy (Hossein) Ghandehari and his brother Dennis (Judy).  He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joni Forsgren-White.
     Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Cascade Ward Building located at 400 East and 400 North in Orem, Utah, with a viewing prior to the services from 9:45 to 10:45.  Interment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Salt Lake City.

Joan died on 15 April 2009 in Logan, Cache Co., Utah.  [I have no burial or cremation information;  This is the only photo I have of her.]

  Two Ogden Teen-Agers Hurt As Auto Hits Another, Rolls
   Harrisville - Two Ogden teen-agers were injured at 8:10 p.m. yesterday when their automobile clipped another being towed from a previous accident scene, and then rolled over.
    Joan Forsgren, 17, of 1237 Oak St., was reported in fair condition today in the Dee Hospital where she is being treated for a broken left arm, severe face cuts and bruises.
    Treated and released was the driver, Dave Tanner, 18 of 2845 Kiesel Ave.  He had cuts and bruises of the face and head.
    Trooper Mark Birch said the accident happened on U.S. Highway 91 about one mile north of  the El Chicko Inn.  He said a wrecker was attempting to make a turn across the four-lane highway after hitching onto an automobile owned by Larry Wayman . . It had blown out a tire and went out of control into the borrow pit.
    He said Tanner, traveling north, attempted to swing around the automobile being towed but clipped the rear of it with the back end of his machine.
    The jolt threw his machine out of control, causing it to skid and then roll over several times off the highways and into the borrow pit.
    Trooper Birch said investigation was being continued.  He said damagae to the automobile was estimated at $100.  The car being towed was only slightly damaged.  The two injured persons were taken to the hospital in a private ambulance.

   Joan Forsgren-White passed away in her home on April 15, 2009, from complications due to surgery. She was born September 24, 1936 in Brigham City, Utah, to Denzil and Viroqua Forsgren.
   Joni devoted her life to helping others. She spent 30-plus years teaching, advising and counseling special education children, students and educators at Utah State, Idaho State and Ogden City Schools. She also spent countless hours helping students and educators at many school districts in the area. Her generosity and willingness to help others lasted throughout her life.
   Joni is survived by her son Kurt (Audri) Bingham of Petersboro, Utah; sister Beverly (Dee) Stevenson of Salt Lake City, Utah; brother Curtis (Norine) Forsgren of Orem, Utah; brother Dennis (Judy) Forsgren of Riverdale, Utah; sister Judy (Hossien) Ghandehari Morgan of Hill, Calif.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, step-children and grandchildren.
   Joan was also dedicated to the advancement of opportunities for women. The family requests that those wishing to send flowers make contributions in her name to the Utah State University Women's Center for Lifelong Learning.

Dennis married 2) Judy Kay Hartwell on 3 Sep 1965 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Dennis passed away at age 74 on 2 Oct 2012.  He is buried in the Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park in Ogden.

     Dennis Lee Forsgren, Sr, 74, passed away early on October 2, 2012, surrounded by his family.
     He was born on June 3, 1938 to Denzil and Viroqua Forsgren and spent his childhood on 31st Street before moving to Oak Street when he was 12. He was a proud graduate of both Ogden High School (class of 1956) and Weber State College (class of 1968). Dennis spent his entire life in Ogden with the exception of one year during high school when he lived in Wells, Nevada, and when he served a mission with his eternal companion to the Belgium Brussells Netherland Mission.
     There was never a bigger fan of the Weber State Wildcats, the BYU Cougars or whatever team he chose that was on TV at that moment. He also shared his love of Broadway musicals with his wife.
     Dennis was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in a variety of positions including at one point teaching a High Priests Group that included three former stake presidents and several bishops.
     He served his community as a member of the Riverdale Planning Committee, Riverdale Lions Club, and as a coach of various youth teams.
     Dennis married Edith George in 1958 in the Logan LDS Temple and they had one son, Lee. The marriage ended in divorce. In 1964, he reconnected with the cousin of his best friend, Judy Kay Hartwell. They were married on September 3, 1965, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They were married 47 years.
     Dennis always enjoyed his vocation of teaching drivers education at the Clearfield Job Corps. He also taught at Weber State and Ogden High. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Judy. There were cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska and through the Panama Canal, a tour of China, a trip to Hawaii, a trip to Church historical sites, road trips through various National Parks and historical sites. During two different trips to Europe, they visited Germany, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Monaco and, of course, Belgium.
     He was never prouder than when all of his children and his wife graduated from college. Dennis was known for his gentle ways, infectious smile and joyous laugh.
     Dennis is survived by his wife, Judy; children, D. Lee (Janet), Heather (Scott), Camille (Alex) and Eric (Tina); sister, Beverly (Dee); six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one grand-bulldog.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law Rick Mabey, his two sisters, Joni and Judy, and his brother, Curtis.
     Funeral services will be held Friday, October 5, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Washington Terrace Seventh Ward, 300 West 4900 South. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Friday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the church.
     Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

   Judy Ghandehari died on November 28, 2011, in Morgan Hill, CA. She was 70 years old.
   Judy was a very loving person, very helpful to those who needed her help and instrumental to the success of her family. She graduated from Ogden High School, and from Utah Technical Collage as a beautician.
   She is survived by her husband, Mohammad Hossein, son, Kouros, son-in-law and daughter Michael and Atessa Rogers, four grandchildren, sister Beverly Stevenson and brother Dennis Forsgren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Denzil and Viroqua Forsgren, sister Joni Forsgren-White and brother Curtis Forsgren.

    Burial will take place in Salt Lake City, Utah, at 2 PM, Saturday December 3, gravesite, near 405 North, 1150 East. A memorial service will follow at 4 PM, at the Murray Holladay United Church of Christ, 2631 East, Murray Holladay Road, Holladay, Utah.

    Mrs. Merle Larsen entertained on Thursday afternoon honoring her niece Miss Opal Larsen.  Luncheon was served at a beautifully decorated table where covers were placed for twelve relatives and friends.  Fall flowers formed the decorations.  Miss Larsen received many lovely gifts.

     Brigham City, Nov. 4 - "Mrs. Merle Larsen announces the marriage of her niece Opal Larsen to Gerald Forsgren, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Forsgren of this city.  The ceremony took place in the Logan temple on Thursday morning.  Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Forsgren accompanied the young couple.  Both are graduates of the Box Elder High school where Miss Larsen was vice president of the student body last year and popular in school activities.  She was also elected Snow queen of the annual winter carnival held here two years ago.  Mr. and Mrs. Forsgren are making their home in Brigham City.  Several attractive parties have been given during the past week honoring the bride."

   GERALD FORSGREN
   Gerald Burt Forsgren, 38, of 1123 Collins Blvd., died yesterday at his home of a heart attack.
    Mr. Forsgren was employed as a salesman in the McClanahan Store in Ogden.
    He was a member of the LDS Fortieth Ward and served in the elders quorum and as a ward teacher.  While in Murray he was assistant superintendent of Sunday Schools in the Grant Ward.
    He was born Feb. 10, 1915, in Brigham City, a son of Oliver and Katie Ellen White Forsgren.  He was educated in Brigham City and Murray where Mr. Forsgren was employed by McClanahan's prior to moving to Ogden in February, 1953.

    Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the LDS Brigham City Fifth Ward, Bishop Richard D. Hansen officiating.
    Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 24th Street and Adams Avenue, tomorrow from 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday until 11 a.m., and at the home of a brother, Lloyd Forsgren, 486 S. 1st East., Brigham City, Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.  Interment will be in Brigham City cemetery.

     #6 child of Oliver & Katie Ellen White Forsgren:  Helen Grace Forsgren, born 11 Mar 1917 in Brigham City, Box Elder Co.  Helen married Cameron George Pope, on 2 Nov 1937 in Morgan, Morgan Co., Utah.  Sadly, Helen died just 4 months later on 17 March 1938 in Brigham City.  She was buried on Mar 19th in the Brigham City Cemetery.
      Cameron Pope was born 8 Mar 1914 in Lehi, Utah Co., Utah.  [I am unsure of information I have about the remainder of his life.  There is a Cameron Pope listed in the 1940 Census of Glendale, California married to a Mary Jane, age 20, born Colorado.  This Cameron Pope is age 26 and lists his residence in 1935 as US Navy.  Mary Jane lists hers as Santa Ana, California which is where the following newspaper article reports Helen's Cameron to have been from.   The Social Security Death Index lists Cameron Pope, born 8 Mar 1914 as dying 4 Aug 2000 in Fresno, California.   I could not find a military record for him or a location of burial.   
     There were, of course, no children born to this marriage.  [I have no photos of either Helen or Cameron]

    Mrs. Pope was born March 1, 1917, in Brigham City to Oliver O. and Kate Ellen White Forsgren.  She was graduated from the Box Elder high school in 1934.  On Nov. 2, 1937, she was married to Cameron Pope in Morgan.

   BRIGHAM CITY--Fred Lee Forsgren, 74, died July 26, 1996 at the home of his daughter in Ogden.
   Fred was born September 19, 1921 in Brigham City, Utah, a son of Oliver Orlando and Kate Ellen White Forsgren. He married Eileen Burt, November 18, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
   Fred was a member of the LDS Church holding various positions including scoutmaster, Sunday School president, high councilman, and bishop. He and Eileen served LDS missions to Rapid City, South Dakota; Zaire, Africa and the Mascarene Islands.
   He was a lifelong resident of Brigham City, employed with Hill Air Force Base, Flying "J" and was also in private enterprise.
   Fred served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a Petty Officer, 1st Class Carpenter's Mate. He served in Vietnam as a civilian, working for the U.S. Air Force.
   Surviving are his wife, Brigham City; three children, Marsha (Blaine) Noorlander, Ogden, Utah; Terry (Debbie) Forsgren and Sid (Pat) Forsgren, Brigham City, Utah; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.
   Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Brigham City 1st LDS Ward Chapel, 236 East 100 South, Brigham City with First Counselor Kenneth Witt officiating. The family will meet with friends on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. and on Monday, from 10-10:45 a.m., both visitations will be at Olsen-Myers Mortuary, 205 South First East, Brigham City. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.

   BRIGHAM CITY -  Eileen Burt Forsgren, 84, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at The Family Tree Assisted Living Center in West Point, UT. She was born on June 6, 1924 in Ogden, Utah, a daughter of Fredrick James and Verna A.C. Wheeler Burt.
   Eileen married Fred Lee Forsgren on November 18, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions. She and her husband served three missions, opening the Madagascar Mission in the Mascarene Islands.
   Eileen served as the President of Credit Women of Brigham, she volunteered at the hospital and was an officer of the Beehive Camp with the DUP. She worked at the original Smiths Grocery Store, Drewes Floral, Victor Motors and Jon Bunderson Law Office. Eileen enjoyed knitting, sewing, and traveling with her husband.
   Sincere thanks to the staff and administration at The Family Tree at West Point and to Vista Care Hospice Team for the special care given to Eileen.
   Surviving are three children, Marsha (Blaine) Noorlander, Ogden; Terry (Debbie) Forsgren, Sid B. (Adele) Forsgren both of Brigham City; 14 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren and one sister, Carol B. (Maynard) Victor. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred, who passed away on July 26, 1996, one daughter-in-law, Pat, one sister, Tess Johnson.

 Alda Florence Forsgren, was born 8 July 1924 in Brigham City, Box Elder Co.  She married Harold J. Larsen on 11 June 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Sadly, Alda passed away just barely short of one year later, in Greenville, Hunt Co. Texas where she had gone to join Harold who was serving in the Army Air Corps.   She and Harold are both buried in the Brigham City Cemetery.
     Harold J. Larsen was born 7 Nov 1920 in Brigham City, Box Elder Co.  He passed away 11 Sep 2006 in Ogden, Weber Co, Utah and was buried in the Brigham City Cemetery.  Harold had four children with his second wife Norma Whitaker.

Brigham City - Alda Forsgren Larsen, 18, wife of Harold J. Larsen, died at Greenville, Texas, Friday following a brief illness.
   Mrs. Larsen was born at Brigham City on July 8, 1924, a daughter of Oliver L. Forsgren and Katie Ellen White.  She was reared and educated in Brigham City, graduating from Box Elder high school in 1942.  While in high school she was a member of the Bee Ettes pep organization and was an officer of the junior class.
   An active member of the LDS church, she served as secretary of her ward MIA and was a Sunday school teacher in Brigham City Sixth LDS ward.
   She was chosen by her ward to compete in the Box Elder LDS Stake Gold and Green ball in 1942.
   She was married to Mr. Larsen on June 11, 1942, in the Salt Lake LDS temple.  Mr. Larsen joined the army air corps and went to Texas, where Mrs. Larsen joined him about five months ago.
   Surviving besides the husband is her father and step-mother of Brigham City, a grandmother, Mrs. Matilda White, Murray, and the following brothers and sisters:   Lloyd and Gerald Forsgren, Brigham City;  Denzil Forsgren, Ogden,
and Fred Forsgren, U.S. navy.
   Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at two p.m. in Brigham City Sixth LDS ward chapel by Bishop Lester Dredge.  Friends may call at the home of the deceased's parents, 513 South Third East, Tuesday evening and Wednesday until time of services.
   Burial will be in Brigham City cemetery, directed by the Harold B. Felt funeral home of Brigham City.

   Harold J. Larsen, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2006 at McKay-Dee Hospital from a stroke. He was born on November 7, 1920 in Brigham City, Utah, a son of Merlin R. and Judith V. Nelson Larsen. Harold married Norma Whitaker on May 20, 1947 in Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II as a pilot and then in the weather service. Harold was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as a Bishop, High Councilman and a Temple Ordinance worker. Harold and Norma currently are in the Brigham City 11th Ward. He worked for the United States Postal Service and retired in 1987. Harold was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast and loved by many friends. Surviving is his wife, Norma, Brigham City; four children, Elayne (David) Taylor, Sandy; Rod (Deonne) Larsen, Gooding, Idaho; Jolene (Carey) Nichols, Brigham City; Paul (Sharon) Larsen, North Ogden; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; two brothers, Merlin Larsen; Raymond Larsen; three sisters, Yvonne Steele; Barbara Baldauf and Shirley Mose. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Orville Larsen.
